In a recent interview, TVC22 met with Geneviève Arturi at the mobile counselling clinic to discuss the project and its successful outcomes.

Arturi introduced themobile counseling service, emphasizing its unique approach to one-session counselling, stating, "It's a clinic where clients can come and meet with a therapist for one-session counselling." The project, inspired by an existing model in their offices in Hawkesbury and Castleman, was taken on the road with the introduction of a new van.

Reflecting on the summer season, Arturi shared, "We have been mobile for the summer season, and we built off the model that we use in our offices." The clinic reached various locations, including Alfred, Pilotage, Hawkesbury, and other eastern Ontario sites. Operating at least one day a week, the team also ventured into rural areas, engaging with the agricultural community to provide information and opportunities for discussions.

When asked about the types of therapies offered, Arturi highlighted the significance of one-session counseling, describing it as "a privileged moment to have a discussion with the therapists and really help clients identify and understand what issues they are maybe having at the current moment." The goal is not merely to assess needs but to actively work with clients, leaving them with strategies and a better understanding of their situations, she explained.

Arturi emphasized that the service is free and walk-in, designed for increased accessibility across the Prescott Russell region. The team aims to reduce the need for clients to travel to Hawkesbury or Castlemaine for counseling.

Discussing the team involved in the project, Arturi stated, "We had a group of about six therapists and counselors that provide services from the Hawkesbury General Hospital." The clinic also collaborated with the local health unit, involving nurses to provide harm reduction services and address addiction issues.

Regarding the setup of the van, Arturi explained, "The back of the van is like a little consultation office, providing a more confidential and comfortable area to sit and have a discussion with one of our therapists."

Looking ahead, Arturi shared the plan for the upcoming winter months, stating, "We will be providing our walk-in clinics in our offices in Hawkesbury on Wednesdays and in Castlemaine every second Monday." She expressed the team's intention to resume the mobile clinics next spring, hoping to expand the calendar with more days and visits to different villages.

In conclusion, the mobile counseling clinic's success in providing accessible and impactful mental health services reflects a commitment to community well-being, paving the way for future endeavors.
