Locally Yours - Rockland Royal Canadian Air Cadets speak with TVC22

TVC22's Chief Journalist, Izabela Daszkiewicz, introduces a new journalist to the station, Jade Lavoilette, during this week's episode of Locally Yours.  The cameras then follow Lavoilette on her visit to the local Rockland Royal Canadian Air Cadets.

Jade Laviolette interviews many of the young cadets and watches as they are put through some of their paces. An interest in aviation was the top reason for the interest in the program by participants, followed by the leadership skills that they learn, and their interaction with the community helping out.

Captain Daphne Bush, who has been with the organization for 11 years since the age of 12, explained the mission statement of the organization. She said that “the goal of the program has three main goals. Our program is geared toward citizenship, so creating better citizens, It's geared towards leadership, so creating leadership opportunities and its goal towards becoming a better fitness, so improving fitness and healthy living.”

Bush also explained how the program works to benefit all parties: “I think that our organization is wonderful for the community because our goals are really geared towards giving back to the community. We want to create citizens that are good and are active members in the community. And we also partner up with some of the community organizations and, you know, they help us and then we help them.” The program offers youth guidance as well as opportunities to work helping out local charity organizations. Emphasis on inclusivity for all members is stressed.

Captain Daphne Bush serves as an officer looking to offer her experience and guidance to cultivate the next generation of cadets. The Rockland Royal Canadian Air Cadets program is looking forward to celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.
