Local Quilter Honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medal
King Charles III Coronation Medal Presented to Mary Murray
The King Charles III Coronation Medal was created to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III in May 2023. It is awarded to Canadians who have made significant contributions to their country or region. As a Member of Parliament, Dan Mazier was given the opportunity to nominate several individuals and invited his constituents to submit recommendations. Overwhelmed by the response, Mazier expressed gratitude for the many deserving people in his community.
One such individual was Mary Murray, who has spent years donating hundreds of quilts and quilted items to military members and first responders, including valor quilts for veterans and wounded soldiers. In addition, Murray contributes items to fundraisers and special events throughout the community, always ready to help those in need.
Her nominator described her as “a beacon of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for our community and our country.”
Murray received her medal from Mazier in a ceremony held at the Royal Canadian Legion #23 in Neepawa. Joined by her granddaughter Hailey, she was visibly moved to tears by the honor.
