Technology in the Classroom I: Exploring Digital Projects
In this special three-part series, NACTV looks at the ways in which technology is used in the classrooms of Neepawa Collegiate and Neepawa Middle School, both as part of a specific curriculum and as part of the everyday classroom.
Rrain Prior – Local Journalism Initiative
In part one, we visit the high school classroom for media-based projects and look at what technologies are in use for purposes ranging from video editing to 3-D modelling to web design to robotics. Regardless of the specific project, however, one of the most widely used applications of technology is the ability to collaborate, even when working remotely. Some of this came to prominence while doing remote learning during the pandemic, but it is something that has been growing in classrooms for some time whether it’s using group chats, google drive, or collaborative software such as Adobe Premiere.
Students were also keen to connect their projects to applications outside the classroom. One of the groups working with video editing was making a video to show incoming middle school students how to get around in the high school, and another was working with existing NACTV programs and enhancing them with new animations and special effects.
Says classroom teacher Reggie Vasquez, “The class would just brainstorm and say ‘how can we get to the next level?’”
