Neepawa Prepares for Significant Infrastructure Expansion
The Town of Neepawa has made a major move this week to expand both housing and business opportunities in the area. The purchase of a 320-acre parcel of land on the northeast edge of town will provide space for industrial and commercial ventures, as well as housing developments. These projects will be rolled out gradually as developers come on board. The town’s role in this initiative is to prepare the area by extending infrastructure, such as water, sewer, roads, and lighting, to the currently unserviced site, leaving developers to take the lead from there.
“We were looking at... if we’re going to do something, how do we set things up for the next forty, fifty years, and what are we going to need?” said Mayor Brian Hedley. Recognizing that the lack of essential services can delay development, the town is taking proactive steps to remove those barriers.
“We have to be a little bit more aggressive on doing things,” Hedley added, “or we’re going to get left in the dust.”
Community Initiatives on the Rise
This week’s developments aren’t limited to land expansion. The Field to Table Club is back in action with a new project in the kitchen. The program, which educates young students and adults with developmental disabilities on growing and preparing food, runs throughout the summer and contributes to the Neepawa Food Bank’s efforts.
Additionally, the Neepawa Farmer’s Market has launched its 2024 season. The market continues to foster entrepreneurship by providing young business owners with a platform to showcase their products and engage with the community.
