Gabriel Mignot: From Brazil to Canada's Musical Elite

Gabriel Mignot's journey in music is a testament to talent, passion, and dedication. A gifted guitar player with a deep love for music, instruments, and coaching, Gabriel's story begins in Brazil. At 15, he moved to Canada, where he found a new home and a community at the School of Rock Winnipeg. His incredible talent quickly shone through as he played in the House Band, toured various venues nationwide, and became the only Canadian student selected for the prestigious All-Stars Tour in the U.S. for two consecutive years.

Gabriel's passion for music was evident from a young age. He recalls, "He showed me the first riffs and things to play on and introduced me to all the classic bands; that's one thing. Then, there was the game Guitar Hero. As soon as I started playing that, it was really cool when I was six or seven years old."

His move from Brazil to Canada significantly impacted his journey. "Firstly, because I started playing with other people, and you just get to know the music culture here, see what my friends were into, and learn about different styles of music."

The School of Rock Winnipeg played a pivotal role in Gabriel's development as a musician.

"It was crucial for my development," Gabriel explains. "I started playing with other people, made friends, and everyone was on the same journey, sharing things with one another. All those experiences, like being on the road and playing different places overnight, were invaluable. I got to work with great mentors from the States and meet other kids from different states, which was a great exchange of information and crucial for my development."

Gabriel has performed at iconic venues, including Lollapalooza and The Troubadour in LA. Reflecting on these experiences, he says, "My all-time favourite moment was at The Troubadour in LA. The history of that place is incredible—Elton John played there when he first came to America. It was a lot of fun and a significant moment for me."

His passion for music led him to enroll in the renowned Jazz Program at the University of Manitoba. "The intense music program there made me feel like I became a real musician," Gabriel shares. "Just the whole culture of pushing yourself all the time and meeting people who are on the same journey as me was transformative."

Today, Gabriel holds a Bachelor of Jazz Studies and works as a music instructor at the School of Rock Winnipeg, inspiring and mentoring the next generation of musicians. His journey from Brazil to the stages of iconic American venues and back to Canada, where he now shapes future talents, is a remarkable story of dedication, talent, and the power of music.
