North Cypress-Langford Council: Municipal Facilities in Need of Upgrades

This month the North Cypress-Langford Council covered topics ranging from the upcoming AMM (Association of Manitoba Municipalities) conference in Brandon to fast Fibre internet installation to upcoming water projects. Delegations this month included the Blue Hills RCMP, who brought the latest statistics from the jurisdiction and held an in-camera session with Council, and OptionPay, which presented a credit/debit system for Council’s consideration.

Cypress Planning District brought the welcome news that they are preparing to handle Part 3 Permits in house now, which involves larger-square footage buildings that used to be referred to the Province. This change, once implemented, will allow for faster turnaround for permitting on those projects and will also likely introduce a new pay structure.

In less welcome news, there has been no movement on a tricky development situation involving Brookdale Holding Company and Council is discussing their options for bringing in resolution assistance from the Province as well as documenting the situation for legal purposes.

With summer approaching, the new campground was top of mind and Councillor Van Kommer took point on identifying priorities in order to get it up and running by mid summer. However this is still Manitoba, so winter sports were on the agenda as well with funding needed for the Brookdale ice plant and other recreation maintenance items, and a new seating area for the Wellwood Curling Club.

Other business this month included a medical suite lease, a new daycare facility proposal, new municipal employees, AMM conference attendance, professional development for staff, Water Services Board priorities for 2024, the 2024 audit progress, and dust control.
