A Town Hall with MP Brad Vis
The local Conservative Member of Parliament, Brad Vis sits down with the HUB Online Network's Civic Journalist to answer some of the questions that the people of Mr. Vis's riding have for him.
The BIG topics discussed include:
Stronger broadband networks in rural areas such as Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Lytton and Lillooet as well as the many Indigenous groups that are through out the riding. Mr.Vis acknowledged that there is a problem, that has been highlighted due to COVID 19. He stated that this was an issue that he ran his campaign on and mentioned that he was in talks with internet providers to see what could be done.
Gareth and Brad talked about the Liberal Governments handling of the current COVID-19 situation. Mr. Vis talked about how not holding sessions of Parliament wasn't working and the money that the Liberal Government is spending is not being checked, he looks forward to going back to Parliament when it opens up in the coming weeks.
Up next was a conversation about the recent shootings in Nova Scotia, and the subsequent gun ban on over 1500 types of guns, and the buy back program. Mr. Vis said that although he doesn't have a gun license or own a gun himself, many people in his riding do, and the way that the Prime Minister went about doing the ban wasn't constitutional and the Conservative opposition will not just sit back and let this happen.
In a question from the public, about freedom of the press -- Mr. Vis pointed out that the press cannot be trusted because the Liberal Government has funded several media outlets. The HUB Online Network reminded the MP that the HON was one of those media outlets.
Another topic that was brought up was in regards to seniors and how they have been financially covered during COVID-19. MP Vis has been using Twitter quite a bit, Gareth talks about what he has been up to on Twitter in his twice weekly news show, on Twitter Brad has been very vocal about seniors and their $300 benefit and how certain seniors that make over a certain amount with their pension should not be eligible for the extra $300 pay out.
A few smaller topics rounded out the Town Hall, that covered climate change, the MP's feelings on Ottawa overall and what the House is like for a newbie.
