The HON's birthday and Local Business Updates

Episode begins with COVID-19 numbers including global total cases and total deaths. Additional break down of provincial and regional numbers provided. A sister facility of an outbreak at a Vancouver poultry plant a few days prior has now been identified to have a case of an employee with the virus. A spokesperson on the behalf of the facility informs us that the chickens themselves do not carry the virus and are not of concern but that washing hands is still a key element in prevention of COVID-19 along with other bacteria relative to raw meat. Additionally, in relation to the topic, ten long term care facility cases now over and only one new case, and two new cases in lower mainland hospitals.

Update on local information businesses during COVID-19, Ashcroft’s Home Hardware closing for Saturdays for undetermined amount of time. Cache Creek’s Star House Chinese food restaurant reopened to the public. As well, the Ashcroft / Cache Creek Barn Dance has been postponed until a later to be determined date. Outside of Province, the Calgary Stampede along with other mass gathering over the summer to be postponed or cancelled in compliance with COVID-19 prevention practices.

Notice of a special show tomorrow of the Hub Online Network’s one-year anniversary episode. Including interviews with the rest of the staff including previous staff and cofounder Jan Schmitz.

Local journalist Raven Nyman calls in to discuss the recent flooding in Cache Creek and some similarly affected areas of the 100 Mile House region. Raven also provides information of a closure on Highway 97 due to a car incident near 70 Mile House. Further updates provided in the Clinton area including Clinton Budget Foods implementing social media through a Facebook page as well as introducing products in store, either new or uncommonly available to the area. Clinton Lariat newsletter looking for submissions for May from the community with a focus on the spring season and historical pieces.

After the call, update provided on CERB funding and the new one-time payment provided by the BC provincial government of one thousand dollars to help financially for people needing support of income due to loss of employment or employment opportunities due to COVID-19.

A follow up on a previously posted poll to the public viewers regarding this program’s future scheduling of the show, public poll results concluded for a request to provide two shows per week scheduled for Mondays and Fridays. With an additional effort in supplementing additional content into not just the show but as other available content through the network.
