There is no doubt that the COVID 19 epidemic has taken it's toll upon personal relationships across the Lower Mainland. According to Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers, the number of reports to Vancouver’s Battered Women’s Support Services has increased 300% since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Tri-Cities Community Television's Cathy Cena had an opportunity to sit down with Carol Metz Murray to find out more about how Tri-Cities Transitions has help break the cycle of abuse in the Tri-Cities region since its inception in 1975.

For the first 25 years Tri-Cities Transitions focused it's efforts on providing support for women who were attempting to escape from abusive relationships. In the early 2000's their programing expanded to include children who were impacted by family violence, and in 2006 Tri-Cities Transitions broke barriers by expanding their programing to include providing parenting support for men. And for women who are attempting to escape abusive relationships, Tri-City Transitions offers an opportunity for respite with their 30 day transition house program.

Joy’s Place, is an emergency shelter offering safety for adult women and their children escaping abusive situations continues to operate, with staff and residents asked to self-monitor to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. If space is unavailable at the home, Metz Murray said the organization will work to find another transition house in the region.
