At the regular meeting of council on Feb 8, 2021, the Town of St. George passed a resolution to appoint Sean Morton as Fire Chief and Derek Hatt as Deputy Fire Chief. Morton reported that for the month of January the department responded to eleven incidents. Two of the incidents were inside town limits and nine were outside of limits. Four of the calls were for Motor Vehicle Accidents, three for for alarms, one was a call responding to an electrical issue, and one each for brush fires, vehicle fires and scrapyard fires. 

The department is currently in the process of onboarding two new recruits, and has been conducting training virtually following COVID-19 guidelines. 

Acting Mayor Faith Avery had nothing to report on the community services front, while the water and wastewater report was largely focused on the water break which occurred on January 9th at 167 Brunswick Street. The break occurred during maintenance on a valve and resulted in a boil order for some residents. The valve was fixed by noon on January 10th, and the boil order was lifted on the 12th. 

The Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission Planning and Development report involved progress reporting on the background study for the update of the towns’ municipal plan, as well as an application from a developer to construct two new four unit apartment buildings in the town. 

To date, the commission has issued four new building permits in 2021. Council was adjourned and the date of the next meeting was set for March 8, at 7 p.m.
