Children's Mental Health amidst the COVID-19 pandemic
The last twelve months have been exhausting for many of us, and have had an impact on our mental health.
Although discussions about mental health issues are becoming more frequent in society, they tend to be more difficult for young people.
We spoke to Valoris, a local organization based in Clarence-Rockland that aims to help Prescott-Russell residents in their social and personal development, about the effects of the pandemic on the mental health of young members of society.
Natalie Lacroix, a Psychotherapist at Valoris, told us about the impact isolation has on children and teenagers as well as the stress on the parent's and the way that will affect their kids.
Ms Lacroix explained that it is especially hard for teenagers who are going through many changes already and having to adapt to the pandemic world can be very hard for them to overcome emotionally, especially those who already struggled with mental health issues such as anxiety or depression.
It's not all doom an gloom though as there has been a slight positive side. Ms Lacroix told us that kids are reporting spending more time with their parents, getting to know them better, starting new family rituals - all things that are contributing to a boost in their mental health.
Valoris' recommendations for maintaining a positive mental health include physical activity and tells us that children are a little more resilient that we may think.
The non-for-profit organization have a variety of tools to help children and parents during this time - you can visit Valoris' website or give them a call at any time.
