Back to School During COVID-19 - Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory

On September 1st, 2020, the Wiikwemkoong Board of Education, the Wikwemikong Health Centre, and the leadership of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory gave a live-streamed community information session regarding the return to school under COVID-19 restrictions.

Emceed by Kerry Assiniwe, we heard from Ogimaa Peltier, Wiikwemkoong Board of Education Director Fay Zoccole, Health Director Mary Jo Wabano, nurse Wahss Wabano, and Band Manager Kevin Wassegijig, as they explain the procedures and what to expect as kids return to school, and what measures will be in place to ensure everyone's safety.

As we enter what will likely be a 'second wave' of COVID-19 infections, we will have to be proactive in making sure our community remains COVID-free, and ensure the safety of our language speakers and cultural knowledge keepers.
