ACN38: Terry Fox, The Slough Society and Water Conservation
In this Episode we have Vivian McLean in studio. She is talking about her involvement in the local and annual Terry Fox Run. She explains a little history and what Ashcroft is doing year in the light of COVID-19. The Terry Fox run takes place over the weekend of September 19 2020.
The Village of Ashcroft has water conservation kits available for the local residents. In the kit is a low flow hose head for your garden, a kitchen and bathroom sink aerator, a low flow show head and a toilet tank bladder, that would restrict the amount your toilet uses to flush. Over all a pretty interesting kit.
The Ashcroft Slough Society has come out of the gate swinging. They had invited Gareth on a walk to show him how difficult the walk to get to the slough really is at the moment, and what their suggestion is for having a safe access to the path. The option that they are suggestion include a walking overpass over the CN railroad tracks, or a 10ft diameter culvert that goes under the railroad tracks. The group is petitioning the Ashcroft Terminal and CN for permission and monies to build one of these options which has been met with little enthusiasm from either of the businesses. Both of those businesses cite liability issues and cost factors that they at this point are unwilling to take on. We will be following this story closely as it progresses. *UPDATE* Since the video has come out the Ashcroft Terminal and CN rail have said they the path we took is not a finale place of access and is now restricted and off limits to the public.
The Desert Sands Community School has shared with the HUB Online network a video that they made showing parents what the return to school would look like. It is a very cute video using a dog to show what they plan to do. School opens back up Sept 10th 2020 in our district.
Jackie Tegart has been appointed to a new shadow cabinet position in the Provincial Government. Jackie is the MLA for the Fraser-Nicola riding. Congratulations to Jackie. This announcement come on the heels of a similar announcement from our Member of Parliament Brad Vis. He has been appointed as shadow minister of housing within the federal Government.
As the possibility looms of a Federal Election taking place in the near future, we also look at the social media pages of the larger political parties and what they are up to. This segment will not include what other parties are saying about other parties. Just what each party is touting about themselves. The Liberal Government held a rally in support of Black business owners.
The NDP shared an uplifting quote from a previous NDP leader Jack Layton. The Conservatives shared their plan for a future involving bringing jobs back to Canada, and the Green party was holding a virtual debate for their leadership position.
