Councillor Adduono chaired this week’s Terrace Bay Council meeting. The agenda and minutes from the previous meeting were approved before moving into the evening’s discussions.

The first item was a report from Administration, presented by CAO John Hall. The property at 26 Terrace Heights Drive, listed at an asking price of $15,000, received multiple offers. Council voted to accept the highest offer of $18,000 from WJ Marion, with the condition that a residential home be constructed on the property within five years. The sale is expected to provide non-budgeted revenue for 2025.

A key item on the agenda was the Hydro Bay Cottage subdivision extension. Council approved a one-year extension for the draft plan of subdivision approval, extending the lapse date to July 21, 2026. The extension, requested by James Nichols on behalf of the Coretech Group, allows more time to meet the remaining development conditions.

Council also reviewed a draft Yard Maintenance Bylaw. The proposed bylaw would consolidate three existing regulations into a single, comprehensive document governing yard and property standards. Residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback before the final draft is presented for approval.

A report on the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) was also discussed. The proposed policy outlines guidelines for the responsible and safe use of AI tools within the Township, particularly in content creation and data analysis. The policy emphasizes human oversight and strong data privacy practices.

Council addressed a petition submitted by Mr. D. Landry, which included 54 signatures requesting the termination of the Township’s contract with Tesla for the EV charging station at Simcoe Plaza. Mr. Landry had previously appeared before Council to express concerns related to Elon Musk’s public association with then-President Trump and fears regarding the president’s supposed intent to annex Canada. After discussion, Council agreed to receive the petition and directed Administration to prepare a report on the Tesla charging contract, including options for cancellation and potential costs.

Department managers then presented their reports, including updates on landfill monitoring, revitalization of the bowling alley, and other tourism-related special projects.

All bylaws presented at the meeting were passed. Council concluded with an in-camera session to discuss confidential matters.
