Richmond Municipal Councillor for District 2, Michael Diggdon, sat down with Civic Journalist Jake Boudrot to detail why he wants to be re-elected in a district that takes in part of Arichat and all of the communities of West Arichat, Port Royal, St. Mary's, Janvrins Island, Martinique, Poulamon, D'Escousse, Poirierville, Cap La Ronde, Rocky Bay, and Pondville on Isle Madame.

Diggdon was first elected to Richmond Municipal Council in the 2020 election.

“Before I became a municipal councillor four years ago, I used to attend the council sessions,” he said. “I used to watch how everyone handled themselves, watched the way things were unravelling, I think that’s what gave me the first insight to put my name forward.”

Diggdon said he has been a business owner for the past two decades.

“I think being a business owner with that day-to-day connection to people, it just puts you into perspective with what people want, what people need, and changes that are required,” he said. “It also gives you the sense of how to invest your money, how to manage your business, how to make it become profitable, and your gains and your losses. It definitely gave me a good financial background.”

Recalling the dysfunction of previous councils, Diggdon said this current council has worked to correct those problems.

“Prior to my first year, there was a lot of upset people the way the county was being run,” he noted. “The county seemed like it had a red mark on it for a long time. In the last four years, I have to say our council made a complete flip of that. If nothing else, we put Richmond County on the top of the map instead of on the bottom. I’m proud to say the other councillors I worked with were great around the table.”
