At a regular council meeting held at the WC O'Neill Arena Complex Council Chambers, St. Andrews Town Council tackled key issues that will leave a lasting impact on the town's trajectory with a focus on personnel changes, community initiatives, and strategic decision-making.
A prominent agenda item centered around the transition in the role of asset and operations manager, marked by the resignation of Kevin Hughes and the subsequent appointment of Terry Acton. The council engaged in thoughtful deliberation, culminating in the approval of Acton's appointment—a decision poised to shape the town's operational landscape with Acton having held this role previously in the community and returning to his old position.
Delving into heritage matters, council scrutinized feedback from the Heritage board on the courthouse study conducted by Broken Shovel Consulting with the general consensus being that council expected to get more out of the study than what was delivered.
In the realm of planning and economic development, the council grappled with a peddler's permit request for a food trailer at 220 Bayview Drive. Engaging in debate, council opted to table the discussion, recognizing the need for a comprehensive policy to regulate such permits in the future, acknowledging the historical context of food truck approvals and denials in the town.
The approval of an updated asset management plan for the market, wharf, and streets of St. Andrews, crafted by CBCL Limited, also took place, as well as approval of a special business improvement levy for 2024 in St. Andrews.
Council also addressed the matter of water quality in Katy's Cove, expressing a commitment to understanding and enhancing water quality for the community's benefit in the year ahead.
