Major demolition is taking place at the Milltown Dam as deconstruction of the main generating building is well underway. NB Power began decommissioning the historic dam this summer. Built in 1881, the dam is one of the oldest hydroelectric dams in the world, but today it is responsible for generating just 0.8 per cent of the province's hydroelectricity supply. The removal of the generating station will create additional spawning habitats for fish species and will help restore approximately 16 kilometres of the St. Croix River to its original natural state. The entire process is expected to continue until the spring of 2024. CHCO will be following the decommissioning of the dam the entire way.

The 8th annual Charlotte County Pumpkin Festival took place on Saturday at Kingsbrae Garden. Approximately 700 people came out to celebrate the wonders of fall with a scavenger hunt, a giant pumpkin weight guessing contest, face painting, pumpkin decorating and the highly anticipated pumpkin pie eating contest, which saw kids of all ages and some adults, signing up to attempt to eat as much of one of Chef Alex Haughn's gourmet pies as possible in a timed face-off. The winner was 11-year-old Kailen Landon of Oak Bay who entered the competition for the first time on a whim because he was hungry and immediately developed a winning strategy.

Finally, the All Saint Anglican Church in Saint Andrews held an annual free Thanksgiving dinner for the community on Monday at the  Anglican Parish Hall. More than 200 people came out to celebrate the holiday with their neighbours. Co-organizer Linda Walsh said the event grows every year and is a wonderful way for the tight-knit community to maintain its closeness. Donations are accepted and help fund the costs of the free community meals, which the Anglican Church provides at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
