Richmond MLA and Warden Tout Green Hydrogen Potential for Strait Area

ARICHAT - The MLA for Richmond and the county's warden are optimistic that recent changes to provincial legislation and burgeoning developments in the green hydrogen and wind energy sectors could result in an industrial and economic bonanza for the Strait of Canso.

Richmond Progressive Conservative MLA Trevor Boudreau is applauding his government's recent moves to accelerate renewable-energy development on the local and provincial level. These include the unveiling of a new provincial Wind Energy Plan by Environment and Climate Change Minister Tim Halman in October - an announcement that came with several mentions of the Strait Area's potential in this regard - and the approval of several amendments to existing green hydrogen legislation introduced by Natural Resources and Renewables Minister Tory Rushton and approved by MLAs during the recently-wrapped fall legislature session.

Simultaneously, Richmond Warden Amanda Mombourquette is pleased with the Strait's presence at the recent Marine Renewables Canada Conference in Halifax, which included a public session co-presented by Mombourquette, Port Hawkesbury Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton and several Strait Area industry leaders.

This all comes as EverWind Fuels is seeking federal and provincial environmental-assessment approval for a major green hydrogen and green ammonia development at the former NuStar Energy terminals in Point Tupper that could begin construction in 2023 and officially launch in 2025.
