On November 28, 2022, municipal elections will be held by Elections New Brunswick as part of the province's local governance reform initiative, which will see the province amalgamating 340 local government entities into just 77 local governments and 12 rural districts. 

The Town of St. Stephen at it is now known will be dissolved and the new Municipal District of St. Stephen, which will encompass areas like Oak Bay and Milltown, will be formed. That means the current council is entirely dissolving and a new mayor and eight new councillors in place of the current roster of six need to be elected.

On Saturday, November 12, 2022, CHCO held a Meet the Candidates event for the newly formed Municipal District of St. Stephen at the Garcelon Civic Centre. All three mayoral candidates participated in the opportunity to share their background and platform with voters: Allan MacEachern, Ken Parker and Burton Stewart. Each candidates was given the same amount of time to make opening and closing statements as well as answer seven different question submitted by the public and vetted by CHCO Television. Candidates alternated who started first for fairness. The event was moderated by CHCO News Director Vicki Hogarth. 

Voters are reminded that those who want to cast their vote early the advance polls can do so at the Municipal Returning Office in Saint Stephen at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Hall located at 63 Union Street. There is also a vote-by-mail option available by going to electionsNB.ca. Any elector in New Brunswick can apply to vote by mail, and electors who choose this method of voting are often temporarily studying, working, or travelling outside of the province, or who may be housebound due to incapacity or illness.
