ARICHAT - Nearly two months after Hurricane Fiona hit Richmond County, residents of a small community in the county's east end are still struggling with major damage caused to their main pathway to the nearby communities of St. Peter's and River Bourgeois. 

Addressing the situation at Monday's Committee of the Whole meeting for Richmond Municipal Council, Warden Amanda Mombourquette - whose District Four takes in the community of Oban - secured her fellow councillors' support to contact Nova Scotia's Minister of Public Works, Kim Masland, to remand action on the stretch of road serving Oban residents. 

"[These] road washouts go way beyond the area of re-routing [traffic] and are creating a dangerous situation with regards to responding emergency vehicles, because some of the roads are impassable," the warden declared during the November 14 meeting at the Richmond Municipal Building in Arichat.
