PC Candidate Ready To Work For Party's Health Care Goals

LOUISDALE - The first candidate nominated for the newly-realigned riding of Richmond is hoping his personal and professional experiences in the health care field can translate into an election victory and a renewed commitment to tending to the delivery of medicine in Richmond County and the entire Strait Area.

Chiropractor Trevor Boudreau, the long-time owner and operator of In Motion Chiropratic in Port Hawkesbury, was nominated for the Progressive Conservatives a year ago and officially began campaigning in Februrary. The native of Louisdale served for seven and a half years as a town councillor in Port Hawkesbury and was also co-chair of the Cape Breton South: Recruiting for Health (CBS:RFH) committee, which was designed in late 2019 to head up local efforts to bring new doctors to the Strait area.

Boudreau feels that his time as a town councillor has taught him the value of a collaborative approach, but has also enabled him to make difficult decisions, including a vote on a new municipal staffing grid for Port Hawkesbury that saw many long-time employees' positions eliminated and their time at Port Hawkesbury's municipal offices prematurely ended.

Simultaneously, Boudreau is pleased to see PC Leader Tim Houston and the provincial party campaign putting health care as its top priority, as it lines up with his own experience attending conferences across Atlantic Canada and working with CBS:RFH Health Recruitment Navigator Maggie MacDonald to reach out to new physicians from across the country and around the world. Boudreau and MacDonald hosted six of these doctors from other countries in a tour of Port Hawkesbury in early 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic swept around the world and through Nova Scotia.

If Boudreau wins the Richmond seat, it will be the second straight election victory for the PCs in a riding incorporating Richmond County. Alana Paon, currently running as an independent candidate, won the riding of Cape Breton-Richmond in 2017 as a PC candidate but was ejected from the party caucus by Houston two years later.
