New Brunswickers head to the polls on May 10 for the 2021 Municipal Elections

New Brunswickers will head to the polls on Monday, May 10, 2021 for the munipical elections, with the exception of voters living in the Edmundston-Madawaska region who will vote later this month. This is due to the region's lockdown in April, which delayed their voting dates. Polling stations will be open from 10am until 8pm on May 10. New Brunswick Chief Electoral Officer Kim Poffenroth encourages New Brunswickers to bring their Voter Information Cards with them when they go to the polls. Each card has a unique bar code which will help workers quickly find the voter's name and process them more quickly.

“I encourage all those who have not yet voted to do so on election day, so their voice can be heard in these important local elections,” said Poffenroth. “We ask that they bring their voter information card with them for faster service and that they wear a mask, as we want this process to go as safely as possible for voters as well as for election workers.”

People not on the voters list will still be able vote but will need to show identification to be added to the list before being allowed to vote. Voters also have the option of voting by special ballot, which is available at the 23 returning offices and satellite returning offices around the province, 6 days a week, up to and including election day.

“These voting options provide greater flexibility to individuals to choose the opportunity to vote that is most convenient for them,” said Poffenroth.

Voters currently in isolation are encouraged to contact their local returning office to arrange the best way for them to vote, based upon their situation. Voters in modified isolation have the option of curbside voting on election day. For those in the Edmundston-Madawaska region where elections were previously suspended, advance polls will take place on Saturday, May 15, and Monday, May 17. The reporting of results for all of New Brunswick will take place on Tuesday, May 25, after the polls close at 8pm.
