Fostering Cultural Connections, Naghmeh Keshavarz's Fight for Farsi Literature in BC

The world of books and reading faces significant challenges in the new era, particularly with the rise of the virtual world and the internet. The printing industry has undergone major changes and may not have the same popularity as before. Therefore, it requires more governmental support. Publishers in British Columbia are no exception, striving to expand their cultural activities despite the issues in the printing and publishing industry. Canada, a country that values cultural activities, provides a backdrop for these efforts.

Today's interview features Sherry, who invited Naghmeh Keshavarz, a publisher from KidsoCado, to discuss the challenges she faces. Naghmeh, who migrated to Vancouver, BC, with her family, shared her experiences. She said " In Canada, many newcomers arrive in Vancouver from different backgrounds and cultures with various educational levels. Some don't even get to work in their own careers when they arrive and have to take whatever jobs are available for survival. She was fortunate to quickly realize what was important in the community, which led her to start her publishing house focused on the Farsi language for the Persian community.

Driven by her love for books and education and a desire to keep the Farsi language alive, Naghmeh decided to open a publishing house. "I wanted Iranian and Persian writers to have a platform to publish their books, which we can distribute everywhere, even online," she said. "We even translate books from Farsi to English and French for other communities to read about our writers and their stories. It is a bridge between cultures.

When Sherry asked about government support, Naghmeh explained, "There are facilities and grants that the government provides, but I have never received them, and that is a challenge for me. It's hard to get them.

In conclusion, Sherry emphasized the importance of having a Farsi publisher to facilitate cultural transitions and showcase the beauty of the Farsi language to others.
