The J. Donovan Law Group is set to host the inaugural Fredericton Divorce Expo on May 25th, 2024 at the Fredericton Convention Centre. Jennifer Donovan, an esteemed family law lawyer and the driving force behind the expo sat down to share insights and details about this groundbreaking event with CHCO-TV.

She emphasized the importance of creating a judgment-free environment where individuals can access information on various aspects of divorce, such as financial matters, property issues, support, and empowerment. The expo will feature 25 vendors from different sectors, all focused on providing essential information to those navigating separation or divorce.
"The Divorce Expo is a place where everybody can get together in a safe environment to receive information about what to expect during a divorce, how to help with finances, how to help with selling or buying a property, support, empowerment," said Donovan. "And it's designed to make sure that we leave the judgement at the door and that you realize that you're not alone in this process and that there's other people there going through a similar situation."
Regarding the keynote speakers at the event, Donovan shared details about the topics that will be covered. She will present on the theme of "come out on top, divorce smarter, not harder," offering strategies for a successful divorce process. Additionally, Donovan mentioned that one of her associates will discuss separation agreements versus petitions for divorces, shedding light on the different options available to individuals.
One of the key aspects Donovan emphasized was the importance of proper budgeting during a divorce, especially when transitioning from a shared household to separate living arrangements. She highlighted the need for individuals to learn how to manage finances effectively in the aftermath of a separation, particularly when there is only one income to support multiple households.
In response to the prevalence of divorce in society, Donovan acknowledged that the likelihood of individuals experiencing divorce is more than 50%. She emphasized that the expo is not only for married couples but also for individuals in any type of relationship that may result in separation or divorce, ensuring that all attendees can benefit from the information and support offered.
"I want to make clear that the Expo is not just for married people. It's for people who aren't married that are going through a separation. So it's for any relationship," said Donovan.
When discussing the timeframe and process of divorce, Donovan provided insights into the varying durations based on individual circumstances. She mentioned that simplified divorces without major issues can be completed in as little as 2.5 months, while more complex cases involving children, property division, and support issues may take longer, potentially spanning several years.
Donovan highlighted the significance of seeking legal assistance and proper guidance during the divorce process, dispelling common misconceptions and emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making. The Fredericton Divorce Expo stands as a beacon of support and empowerment for individuals navigating the complexities of separation and divorce, offering a wealth of information and resources to guide them toward a brighter future.
